Top Places to Enjoy in the Atlanta area
For Spring Break this year my family did a staycation. Here are some of the must do attractions and places we recommend enjoying if you are in the Atlanta area. All of these destinations are kid friendly and personal favorites. I highly recommend checking websites before hand as every spot has different hours and opportunities to see things.
Atlanta Zoo is by far our top must do/experience when you come to Atlanta. Young, old and everything in-between always has a great time here. This spot is always a hit for pretty weather and picnic lunches. Plan for 3 hours. The Atlanta Zoo went through some large renovations to the safari section of the zoo and it is a beautiful buildout, along with a nice parking deck on the one side of the park .
Tellus Science Museum is An incredible spot to checkout rocks, space, and the pursuit of flight. Don’t forget the dinosaurs! It is on the North side of Atlanta and also has a sky show and children’s explore area.
This is a spot on the North East side of Atlanta up in Alpharetta. It has shops, live music on weekends, and brewery’s along with one of the best coffee places around.
Consolidated Gold Mining Company
Founded in 1896, the gold mine focused on removing gold trapped in quartz veins throughout the property. Head 200 feet underground and over 100 years back in time to experience life as a turn of the century gold miner. After your underground tour, you pan for gold. North Georgia’s only underground gold mine tour, and a must visit.
Great Wolf Lodge
Great Wolf Lodge is on the South side of Atlanta in LaGrange. It accommodates families with fully built in bunk rooms for kids in the hotel room, your water park passes are included and they have bowling, rock climbing, arcade, kid yoga and tree top experiences as well. All food is kid friendly so if you are looking for five star this is not that but it is a blast of fun. The green water slide is a big thrill for adults that want to plummet straight down to the bar for drinks and impresses the kids.
Sawnee Mountain Hike Trail
This hike has a spectacular view, a spot for the fairy garden lover’s, and is quipped with picnic tables and bathrooms at certain spots. They have a short trail and a longer one. My kids can walk over four miles so the long one was fine but if you have slower walkers make sure you plan enough time to enjoy the entire loop.
Palmelot Farms and Winery
This is a Milton area farm that is family owned and operated. The weekends boast a petting zoo area, beautiful fountains and acreage along with wine tastings, sometimes yoga sessions and live music in the summer. Check website for special events and even horse riding lessons or summer camps!
Garrard Landing Park
This is a hidden gem of a place and I almost didn’t add it to our list. Its a quiet and pretty park with a simple playground, creek, and green space. It is smaller in size and on the upper East Side. A nice walking trail and perfect covered bridge are also a bonus to this park. Its gets very hot is the summer as it has a good bit of open space and not much tree coverage.
Ponce City Market
One of the favorites. This spot holds shops, eateries, breweries, a belt line to walk, bike ride, rollerblade, or rent an electric scooter. There is a playground not far and a rooftop putt putt course as well.
